O Formigueiro - Anthill

;) I captured a queen of camponotus vittatus and I am bringing this blog back to life! ;)

My wife found this camponotus colony inside the shower in our backyard. We never used It, and when she touched It the whole thing fell down and inside were the ants.

I captured 3 Brachymyrmex queens and 5 days later they already had a lot of eggs to look after. In the picture above we see the first worker who was born. E nasceram mais operárias. And more workers were born. The brachymyrmex colony develops well with the 3 queens.

Another attempt of adoption between species. 2 queens of camponotus in the same initial stage; I took a pupae from one and placed it on the other. ;) I have tried before and they feed and care for eggs, larvae or pupae, but when the worker is born the queen kills and feeds on her. Nevertheless a friend of the south of the country obtained success with the camponotus rufipes, the queen of this specie adopted one of another, but of the same genus: Camponotus.

A design inspired by the moon, for small species.

The girls moved the whole fungus culture to the new bottle. In the second picture you see the oldest fungus with a lighter colour, and the new one darker, full of  processed  leaves and  petals. I got the chance to clean the first bottle (the one with the white cover) that was like a swamp, full of water and garbage; is now available, as seen in the photo.
