A Odontomachus - The Odontomachus

Eu tentei fazer uma foto com a rainha odontomachus carregando a sua quantidade de ovos, mas a rainha largou os ovos em algum lugar dentro da câmara. E a umidade ainda bloqueia algo da luminosidade, assim esta não é a melhor das fotos.

I tried to make a photo with the odontomachus queen with the amount of eggs, but the queen laid the eggs somewhere inside the chamber. And the moisture still blocked some of the light, so it's not the best photo.

O terrário da Odontomachus - The terrarium of the Odontomachus

Eu decidi manter uma das rainhas Odontomachus. Terminei ficando com a maior que já estava com alguns ovos. Montei o terrário e, como sempre, construí a câmara subterrânea numa das laterais, com amplas possibilidades de visualização do interior da câmara. Mas como você pode ver na segunda foto, a visualização está prejudicada pela umidade, mas isso passará.

I decided to keep one of the queens Odontomachus. I ended up with the biggest which had some eggs. I mounted the terrarium and, as always, built the underground chamber on one of the sides, with ample opportunity to view the interior of the chamber. But as you can see in the second photo, viewing is affected by moisture, but it shall pass.

A rainha levantou um muro dividindo a câmara em duas. As câmaras estão conectadas por um único e pequeno orifício.

The queen built an wall dividing the chamber into two. The chambers are connected by a single small orifice.

Coloquei a rainha e ela rapidamente fechou a entrada da câmara deixando apenas um pequeno orifício, onde coloco a comida que ela recolhe. 

I'd put the queen and she quickly closed the entrance to the chamber leaving only a small hole where I put the food that she collects.

Ovos - Eggs

E as formigas já começaram a trabalhar... 2 dias depois da coleta já temos ovos!

And the ants started to work already... 2 days after the collect we have eggs already. 

Novas Festinatus - New Festinatus

Durante a noite de ontem após as chuvas dei uma procurada por rainhas e encontrei algumas festinatus e 2 camponotus preta de uns 8 mm.

During last night, after the rain, I was searching for queens  and found some Camponotus festinatus and 2 black camponotus with 8 mm.

Três rainhas que eu coloquei juntas, por causa de falta de espaço, começaram a cuidar uma das outras. Pensei em deixá-las juntas, mas já fiz isso anteriormente e 2 das formigas morreram.

Three queens that I put together, because of lack of space, began to take care of each other. I thought about leaving them together, but I've done it before and 2 ants died.

Linda / Beauty

Também peguei esta linda rainha faz uma semana. Veja que ela tem um bolo de larvas a esquerda e alguns ovos embaixo dela. Pelo tamanho da cabeça dela, ela deve ter soldados.

I collected this beautiful queen one weel later. Realize it has a larvae ball to the left and some eggs bellow her. By the size of its head it must have soldiers/majors.

Incrível / Amazing

Esta caixa plástica é a caixa de coleta de comida das minhas acromyrmex. Como eu não estou com nenhuma colônia desta espécie a caixa estava guardada na minha estante. Fui pegar um pote pra guardar a rainha camponotus preta que achei e, surpreendentemente enocntrei esta rainha festinatus que ficou presa no pote. Ela entrou pelo orifício de conexão com o formigueiro e não conseguiu escalar de volta, fazendo do pote uma armadilha.

This plastic box is a collecting food box  from my acromyrmex. As I am not with any colony of this species the box was saved on my bookshelf. I was looking for a pot to save the queen camponotus black thought and surprisingly I found this festinatus queen that got stuck in the pot. She went through the connection hole and could not climb back, making the pot a trap.

Camponotus preta / Black Camponotus

Aqui choveu bastante todo o dia até agora. Eu ia sair pra dar uma olhada na vizinhança, quando achei esta camponotus preta com uns 7 mm de comprimento no portão do meu jardim.

Here it have been raining the whole day so far. I was about to go outside to search the neighborhood out, when I found this black camponotus with 7 mm large on my garden gate.
